Gardening Buddy

Once I met a special person

Who became my gardening buddy.

We chatter often about whether

The soil is dry or muddy.

In spring we share stories of crocus

Poking through the snow.

In summer we moan of hoeing

And the grass we have to mow.

In autumn when the asters and mums

Begin to blossom red and gold,

  I'll write about my raking woes

And get replies about the cold.

When winter blankets our gardens

We curl up warm and cozy

Planning next year's planting

Of veggies, shrubs, and posies.

Like roses pressed in my scrapbook,

And the violets I hold dear,

I treasure you, my Gardening Buddy,

And, feel you always near.
